“Hey, Urahara.”

Urahara groaned and rolled over to face the boy, Ichigo had a bad habit of talking after sex when all he wanted to do was sleep. For some reason it was never just idle chitchat either, no it was always serious and most times a little depressing. He had a real knack for killing the afterglow. Urahara just hoped that tonight the talk wouldn’t last long, he was really very tired.

“You know what I just realized?”

Urahara stretched and yawned, popping his jaw loudly. “What’s that Kurosaki-san?”

Ichigo growled. “Well first could you at least drop the –san? I mean shit; we’ve been together for how long now? Like 5, 6 months?”

Urahara smiled. “Okay, then. What have you realized Kurosaki?” Urahara nuzzled the boy’s neck attempting to distract him to a more pleasant activity. Ichigo pushed him away with a frown.

“Stop messing around, this is serious.”

Sighing Urahara propped himself up on an elbow, it was best to just hear the boy out, answer any questions and then try to sleep again. “Go ahead.”

“Well, I was just thinking that when I die I’ll go to Soul Society and become a shinigami but when you die you’ll be reborn as a human.”

“Yes, that’s right.”

“Well, don’t you think that sucks?” When Urahara just stared at him Ichigo huffed and rolled over muttering a quiet ‘whatever’. Urahara chuckled and pulled the boy back around. “Perhaps you should explain the problem to me.”

Ichigo gaped at the man. He appeared to be quite shocked but for what reason Urahara didn’t know. Suddenly he was being punched in the arm.

Hard.

“We won’t be together then you asshole! Or do you just not give a shit?”

Frowning Urahara idly rubbed the spot where Ichigo had hit him as he contemplated what the boy had said. Well, yelled was more like it. This was obviously upsetting for him but Urahara couldn’t really see why. He had realized long ago that that’s how things would happen but he’d never given it much thought. He was going to live hundreds of years more so it doesn’t matter so much if Ichigo dies. Not that the event wouldn’t be sad for various other reasons but it wouldn’t mean the end of their relationship. There’s no question that the boy will be a shinigami and when he’s placed in a squadron, no doubt as captain, he’ll be able to visit. Hell, Urahara may even sneak into Soul Society to see him on occasion; Ichigo will be busy with his duties after all and might not be able to get away that often.

Urahara tells him that but it just makes Ichigo look sad.

“But what if things don’t work out that way? What if it’s you who dies first? You’ll be reborn and what if I can’t find you?”

Urahara hadn’t even considered that. In fact, he avoided thinking about it. He planned on living a very long time, but the boy had a point, one that Urahara couldn’t deny as valid and quite frankly a little scary. He sighed as he tried to think of a way to comfort Ichigo, to make things okay, but he just couldn’t come up with anything. He decided to just say what he thought and hope for the best. Running his fingers lightly through Ichigo’s hair he whispered, “Well then, I guess we should make the most out of the time we do have.”

Ichigo frowned and started to protest but stopped before saying anything. Long minutes stretched by as the boy lay there quietly, seemingly thinking it through. Eventually he sighed and nodded.

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. There’s not really anything we can do, but I swear if you die first I will hunt you down and make you regret it.” Ichigo glared at Urahara for a minute, then pulled his head down to kiss him hungrily.

As Ichigo proceeded to kiss him senseless, Urahara vowed to be more careful from then on. He’d hate to lose these moments with Ichigo. Besides, the thought of the boy hunting him down with murderous intent was almost as scary as losing him completely.

Besides, the thought of the boy hunting him down with murderous intent was almost as scary as losing him completely.

I think that's my favourite line. Your FF is beautifully written, though now I'm wondering about what would happen were Urahara to die first.
Would Ichigo find him and try to continue their relationship or would he be consoled by someone else, or... *sigh* You see where this is going?

(By the way these are my pathetic attempts st manipulating you into writing a sequel.)
Anyway, a wonderful work of writing, I hope you continue!

Thanks for the love!

I'm thinking that as loyal and stubborn as Ichigo is he'd find Urahara, of course he'd have to wait awhile since he'd be a baby, then since Urahara wouldn't remember Ichigo he'd have to work his way back into his life and heart. He might get comfort from somebody else in the meantime but I don't think it'd be anything serious, they wouldn't be able to replace Urahara.

Of course now I'm wondering how much of Urahara's personality would pass on. He wouldn't be exactly the same I'm sure but just how different would he be and would he be too different? Damn, that'd be a hell of a story. Maybe I'll get around to writing it someday although I'm not sure if I could write Urahara's death, it'd just be too sad.

I might write something in this general vein though. Maybe where Ichigo's died and Urahara's waiting for him to come back or something.

I don't know. First I need to catch up on all my claims then we'll see.

I'm totally down for this!!!

WOW!!

That would take some serious time, though.. And it would be HUGE!!! And EPIC!!! And terribly sad, but I'm sure you could redeem it. :D

Yeah actually I was thinking I might do it for my NaNoWriMo.

Damn I wasn't even logged into my own journal when I posted that comment!

[identity profile] evergrnterrace.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
lol.. XD

It's all good!!

NaNoWriMo sounds good to me...

Think you could manage to make that story into 50k words? A Chapter fic?

*Is intrigued*

[identity profile] corelle.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know maybe. It'd be fun to try. Maybe if I get it all written and it's not 50k I could do that mpreg story I've been thinking about as well.

[identity profile] evergrnterrace.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Lol! MPREG NOOOOOO!!!!!

XD

Oooh, does this mean I get to do an official word count?? Wooha!

Hell, even if you DO hit 50k in under amonth, I suggest at least starting the mpreg. :)

I'm not sure if I'm going to sign up for NaNoWriMo.. I'm assuming we'll be pretty busy with yours.. I may try, though.. Just to shoot out some of my own prompt sets.. :P Or I may do it unoffically, since I need to get these out of the way, regardless.. :P

*shrugs* We'll see, I 'spose?

*woot* I'm so damned excited for next month1

You should do NaNoWriMo too. I could need up writing all of mine in the last week. Or betaing while I'm writing might not really work. Ooo, you could just do a read through once a week or something to make sure the basics of the story are okay, then do a more in depth job afterwards.
